Simon Schneider on set

Writer-Director bridging German and American cinema.

Simon Schneider is a German writer-director based in Los Angeles. He studied film directing at the ifs internationale Filmschule Köln and at the AFI Conservatory in Los Angeles (MFA, 2025), where he was the last German directing student in seven years.

Before film school, Simon directed and wrote for KiKA, the children's channel of ARD and ZDF. His work explores the spaces between ambition and failure, between systems and the individuals caught within them — through grounded drama, dark comedy, and social satire.

His AFI thesis film Degree of Certainty was made with support from Amazon MGM Studios and is currently in international festival circulation. His feature debut Unter Mietern — a social thriller set against Germany's housing crisis — is in active development.
